Remember, any culture is better or worst than others; It is just different. Before criticize or get offended with different habits, make sure you understand the contest you are inserted. If you are not sure about something, in stead of talking take a moment and observe.

You will feel alone and you will miss friends and relatives for sure, it is normal. The important thing during this times is to keep calm and look for something nice to do. Take a sightseeing as an example.
